Privacy Policy

This policy explains what we collect when you request quotes, exactly who receives it, and what you can do about it. We have tried to write it in plain language rather than legal padding.

Who we are

Eavestroughing.ca operates a marketplace that connects homeowners in Canada with independent gutter and eavestrough contractors. We are not a contractor. We do not perform work, supervise work, or employ the companies listed here.

What we collect

When you submit a quote request we collect:

  • Your name, email address and phone number.
  • Your postal code, and your street address if you provide it.
  • Details about the project: service needed, property type, storeys, approximate length, materials, timing and your description.
  • Any photos you choose to upload.
  • Technical information: your IP address, browser user agent, and the page you submitted from. We use these for fraud prevention and to understand which pages are useful.

Who we share it with

We share your request, including your contact details, with up to four independent local contractors who cover your postal area and offer the service you asked for — often fewer in smaller markets. This is the entire purpose of the service and we ask for your explicit consent before doing it.

Those contractors are separate businesses. Once your details reach them, their own privacy practices apply to how they handle the information. We require them to use it only to contact you about your request, and we remove companies that misuse it.

We do not sell your information to data brokers, advertisers, or anyone outside the contractor network.

Service providers

We use third parties to run the service: Cloudflare for hosting and security, a Postgres database provider for storage, Stripe for contractor payments, and a transactional email provider to send confirmations. Some of these process data outside Canada, which means it may be subject to the laws of other countries.

Marketing

We only send marketing email if you separately ticked the optional box for it. That consent is independent of your quote request, and unticking it does not affect the service. Every marketing email contains an unsubscribe link, as required by CASL.

How long we keep it

We keep quote requests for two years so we can resolve disputes between homeowners and contractors, and so contractors can substantiate refund claims. After that we delete or anonymise them. Contractor billing records are kept for seven years as tax law requires.

Your rights

Under PIPEDA and provincial privacy legislation you can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, ask for it to be deleted, and withdraw consent for future sharing. Email support@eavestroughing.ca and we will respond within 30 days.

Withdrawing consent stops us sharing your details with any further contractors. It cannot retract information already sent to a contractor who received it before you withdrew — you would need to contact them directly.

Security

Traffic is encrypted in transit. Passwords are hashed with scrypt and never stored in readable form. Sessions are stored server-side so they can be revoked. Contractor access to homeowner contact details is gated behind a purchase and logged.

No system is perfectly secure, and we will not claim otherwise. If a breach affects you, we will notify you and the Privacy Commissioner as the law requires.

Cookies

We use cookies that are strictly necessary to run the site, such as keeping you signed in. We do not run advertising trackers. If we add analytics, we will ask first where consent is required.
